I normally wouldn't think this was odd, except that I shared this experience with a store full of people. While shopping at a popular thrift store, I heard the door open and clink the entry bell. Normally I never would have heard it or cared, but for some reason this time, I did. I looked up and saw a man walk in and was instantly drawn to him like a magnet. I couldn't look away if I wanted to. As he slowly passed by, walking like an old man would, I was able to clear my head and look around to see that he had the same effect on every person he passed. People literally stopped what they were doing and blatantly stared - fascinated. He walked like an old man, yet he looked to be in his late 20's, early 30's. It was 95 degrees that day and this man was wearing a full black wool suit complete with Derby hat and cane. The suit looked as though it was brand new if this were 1920. He was attractive, solidly built, but walking and acting as though he were 80 years old. I continued to shop while still totally aware of his every move. The same can be said for the others in the store. He shopped oblivious to the stir he was causing. Then at one point he was near me and he sneezed. I formed my lips to say 'bless you' but I never got one word out before he looked over his shoulder, started directly at me and said 'thank you dear.' I was dumbfounded!! I hadn't said it!! I looked at another woman nearby and she looked at me with the same amount of shock. As he was leaving, I heard him say to the lady behind the counter in a distinguished half whisper 'I was unable to locate anything today,' tipped his hat and slowly walked out. As the door closed, the people converged together and started to relate their feelings. It was all the same!! The lady behind the counter then said 'I'm going after him - I need to know where he is from' and headed out the door. I followed her. She said to him 'excuse me, I don't mean to sound forward but where are you from?' the man replied 'California originally but you might say I travel frequently.' While I stood there I noticed that his skin didn't look real to me. It wasn't a mask, it wasn't make up, but it was almost like soft leather - but NOT old!! I still can't offer a plausible description to this day. Back to the man - She said 'aren't you hot in that suit?' to which he replied 'why whatever for?' Confused, she said 'I find you very unique, as do many in my store, may I ask you your name?' The man said 'for the sake of ease, you may call me Mr. E' and tipped his hat and started to walk away. We headed back to the store when it hit me .... Mr. E .... get it? Mystery!!! I said this out loud and we turned to look at the man again and he was gone!! As slow as he walked he could NOT have disappeared in 5 seconds. We looked up and down the street and he was GONE! He couldn't even have made it inside a store that fast! I can't explain anything that I saw or heard, but I know that he was not normal. He looked like an old black and white photo from the olden days when no one smiled but the 10 year olds looked 20. He didn't fit any person you'd bump into on the street, and because I was one of 10 people to become hypnotized by him, I know for sure that this mystery man was not from our time. It was as if he walked out of 1920 and into 1998. How it changed my life:It made me believe in something I have NEVER believed in before. Until it happened to me, I scoffed at stories like this, but I can NOT explain it - nor do I expect anyone ELSE to believe me .... except for those in that store!
