GHOST GOLFER

Summer is a very busy time for me. I play golf about 3-4 times per week. On July 5 of this year I picked up two friends and went to local course to play 18 holes. Usually we have a regular foursome, however due to the holiday, our fourth was out of town with his family so we went with three. When we got to the first tee we met a man who was stretching and getting ready to tee off. He told us his name was Warren and that one of us could ride in his cart with him so I introduced myself and loaded up my clubs. Warren was between 35-40 years old and was in fairly good shape. It was obvious that he was an avid golfer by his equipment. He was playing with a set of old-time clubs made in the 60's that are only used today by very skilled players. Throughout our game Warren and I started talking and became what I would call quiet friendly. I ejoyed his company very much Warren went on to explain to me that he lived in an area of Rockford, Illinois where the neighbors! pride themselves in keeping old homes restored to their original designs. Ironically my wife and I had just moved to that same area, so Warren and I exchanged stories about each other's homes. According to Warren his home was built by a doctor in the 1950's and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. That impressed me so Warren invited me over for lunch following the golf game to meet his wife. After the round, Warren wrote down his address on the back of my scorecard and I was to meet him there at 1:00. When I looked at the address, I noticed Warren's home was one block to the East of the home my wife and I has just bought. Upon arriving at home I figured that I would park my car in my garage and walk to Warren's place from there. I had only lived there one week so I had not had the chance to meet any of my neighbors. Being out would give me the chance to say hello to people on the way which I did. When I arrived at Warren's home I knocked on the door and was greeted my a young, around 25, which I figured was Warren's son or younger brother. When I told the man I was there to see Warren, he said to me 'I'm Warren. What can I help you with?' That sort of shocked me so I explained first who I was and that I just moved in down the street. I then told him I was looking for 'Old Warren if that's what he goes by.' The man looked puzzled. He let me in and led me ! to a living room where we sat down. On the wall I notice a picture of a man holding a baby. Judging by the photograph's quality it was probably taken in the early 1970's. When I walked closer to the picture I noticed that the man holding the baby was the 'Warren' I had just played golf with. When I asked young 'Warren' who the man in the picture was he told me it was his grandfather. According to the young man, his grandfather, also named Warren, was a doctor in Rockford for a number of years and lived the house we were sitting in. I then revealed that I just played golf with the man in the picture. With a strange look on his face, the young man went on to explain that his grandfather, 'Warren' had died in 1978 and that he was the baby in the picture, which had been taken about two months before his grandfather's death. Young 'Warren' or as he later revealed to me 'Warren III,' has just taked possesion of the house after Dr. Warren the II retired to Florida. He the! n told me that he had just graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School and was starting a practice in Rockford. I was beginning to get chills up and down m spine. I told Warren III about my golf game with 'Warren Sr.' He told me the thought I was crazy. I then went on to explain to the young man the clubs I saw the Warren Sr. use at the golf course. He then led me to his basement where he had a trophy room set up. There in the corner was a golf bag and entire set of clubs. As I looked at them I noticed they were THE clubs Old Warren had just used with me that afternoon. Apparently they stayed in the family after Old Warren's death. By that time Warren III was beginning to believe me. When I asked him how is grandfather died he told me he suffered a heart attact on the eighteenth green at the golf course we had just played on July 5, 1978! I played golf with a ghost!!!! Warren III and I are now friends. We have not seen or heard anything of his grandfather since. We are planning on playing golf next July 5 at that same course just to see if what happened to me this year could possibly happen again. I gained a new friend from this experience. Could it be possible Warren Sr. wanted me to meet his grandson?

How it changed my life:

It made me believe that there is another side....

Date: 9/28/1999 3:33:00 PM    I read this story back earlier in the year, and loved it so much I sent it around to some friends of mine, who thought it was a pretty cool story. Everyone is skeptical to a certain degree, but isn't it a great thought that our loved ones can reappear from time to time and do something that they enjoyed while here on earth!

Date: 9/29/1999 7:33:00 PM    i have just finished reading your story and can not help but to be skeptical. It seems completely bogus that an event such as this one could take place. I am not disbelieving you at all, you never know what is possible. Good luck on July 5th!!!
