When my grandfather was alive he steered clear of funeral homes and would not even touch the paper in which he needed to sign his will, except with his pen. He passed on with a heart attack most unexpected. My grandmother then came to live with my husband and I as she did not drive and did not have relatives nearby, we felt she would be better off with us. My grandmother was a very strong person and my grandfather was very easy going and I had felt he would disapprove of our arrangement as he would have felt my grandmother would ahve ruled the roost. This did not bother my husband and myself. My grandmother began showing signs of alzheimers disease, however slight, and could be difficult at times. I felt the best way to cope with this was to go to my stable and clean the horse stalls, one night while out in the barn, deep in thought, my grandfather came to me and called my name and said everything would be just fine. She passed away within the week. The day she passed ! I had called my grandparents friends in NJ and explained what had happened, before I could get the story out, grandma's neighbor said, Do you know how your grandfather always went down the hall in the house they lived in? Knocking on the doors as he passed saying 'Come on, Mom'? I said yes, she said the new owners heard knocking and 'Come on,Mom' like he was looking for her to help her pass. I miss my grandparents terribly, it has been 10 years for my grandma now.
