The Prom Queen

Well I was sitting at my rather humble apartment one lonely sunday night (I have no husband or children to keep me company)when I aparently fell asleep. Iwas awakened from a fitful slumber by a noise from the kitchen. I made my way as quickly as possible (wich was pretty fast considering the size of my apartment). I was thinking that somebody had broken in, so I grabbed a butcher knife from the shelf that stood inside the kitchen next to the door. I then flicked the switch (I was very frightened but I knew how to protect myself since I had grown up in a rough neighborhood) As I stared into the room at first i saw nothing then out of the corner of my eye I saw a flicker of light. My head jerked toward the light and it began to materialize before my very eyes. As it grew clearer I realized it was in the shape of a young girl of the age of about 16. She was dressed in a fancy looking dress that seemed to look as though it was from the 50's. She was very pretty exept a line a! cross her throat. It looked to me as though she had been strangled. 'What are you doing in my apartment?' I stammered in a frightened voice for there was somthing un-nerving about her. Perhaps because when i had first entered i had not seen her clearly. I certainly wasn't about to believe she was a damn ghost! I had never been a believer myself. But all she did was smile a lonely sad smile and began glimmering again. Then as soon as she apeared she was gone. Shortly after I began reading about ghosts for I had no other explanation for what I had seen in my kitchen. Well a while later my luck changed and I got a house in the country and a nice job. In all the the stories about ghosts I have read they have always had an ending where the witness discovers who the ghost is. Well I wish I could say I knew but I dont have a clue who she is so I call her only 'The Prom Queen' ad I hope she was before she died. The poor dear.

Well I believe it had now rather huge effect on my life exept that it changed my belief and how I look at things.
