October of 1997, I had an accident. At school I fell off a ladder about a story high andlanded on top of the ladder and on cement. I injuried my back. Four of my facet joints
are not how they should be. And this is causing arthritis. The only word to discribe this
injury that will never heal is....pain.
Novemeber of 1998 I had a surgery for it. This surgery was just to try to take some
of my pain away. What the doctor did was stuck twelve pins into my spine. These pins
looked like and was almost as big as a golf tee. I could feel my spine being jerked
when the doctor was sticking them in. He had to move them around when they were in me because
it was very important to get the pins in the right spot. When he finally got done with that he put a long thick needle that was connected to a machine into each hole that the pins were in.
When he turned the machine on my whole back (inside and out) vibrated.
I was fully awake. They could not put me under or even give me anything to dull the pain. I felt
every thing. It was so painful. I've broken bones and have had to had stitches
before and this was hundreds times more painful. But a wonderful thing happen to me. The most painful part
of the surgery is when the surgeon is moving and reputting the pins in. After he did a few I thought i was going to die. But suddenly I felt no pain. All the pain vanished. And I felt my
grandparents spirit in the room with me. I felt someone touch my hand and I moved my head to see that a nurse was not
there. The hand felt so soft and warm. I knew it was my grandmother. Their presences grew stronger and I fainted.
I woke up right as the doctor asked me if I could feel the vibration (he turned the machine off once I told him I did).
I just blinked at the nurse and nodded. I still could feel them their with me but not as much as befoer I fainted.
And I still felt the pain but it wasn't as bad either.
I know that my grandparents took the pain away those seconds before I fainted. My family even say that they think that my grandparents
had me faint so I wouldn't have to feel it anymore. And I believe that too.
The funny thing about this is that the doctor and the nurses did not know that I fainted. I figured that I was in a faint for about half of the surgery and the surgery was 45 minutes long.
They told my father that I did wonderful. That I never so much as gave a groan. I was the youngest that he gave this surgery to before and he said he did hundreds of these. People that are 40 years old
and older get this surgery not a 16 year old. They didn't even know I fainted....
Thank you, grandma and grandpa.
