Mom bled to death by hospital, justice never served!

  Author: 331  Category:(Crimes) Created:(9/17/1999 9:29:00 AM)

My mom was diagnosed with a rare nerve disorder, and for months was told it was not life threatening. This was after many types of tests, blood, sonograms,4 drs, and 2 Rehab centers later she was admitted to a Hospital in Ct, that is supposed to specialize in this type of disorder. Day 1...she was admitted, all blood tests were done and everything as far as the thickness of her blood was VERY normal. They put her on a regimen of (Plasmapheresis) which is like a dialisis of her blood to clean out the bad stuff and put the good stuff back in. However, in order for THEIR machines not to clot up they needed to add a blood thinner to it, which in return got pumped back into my moms body also. Hosptal protocal says that some one on HEPERIN does not need to be monitored. Well in the feild that I worked in as a phlebotomist (drawing blood) a person inpatient or out, once put on Heperin is always monitored closely, as for they need to try to get a good level going on the person without bleeding them to death. One bump in the stomach that you or I can take, could kill a person on this Medication. 3 days later my mom complained of pain in her stomach, they searched with an ultrasound, and found an internal bleed. Of course (not related)to the Heperin in anyway, as they say. They proceded to pump into her 3 persons worth of blood, platelettes, and Frozen red blood cells, and she blew up like a 98 pound blueberry, and they had NO output for the excess blood. It shut her organs down one by one, and at the last minute they decide to take her into surgery to stop the bleeding. The Dr. comes out stating that the operation was a success, but WE LOST HER! They preceeded to talk my dad into signing an ok for THEM todo an autopsy. I told him no way that the crime squad of Ct should take over all of this. Crime Dept turned me down saying this is not a crime. That hospital DID do the autopsy and covered their tracks carefully by taking all body parts out and slicing them and putting them in formaldahyde before even doing a toxicology test of ANY sort. There is no Lawyer who will take my case on, here in Ct, must be that Dr./Lawyer confidentality thing. Newspapers wont touch me as for I have to have a specialist near me to agree with what I have to say. TV is the same way. Our State of Ct Health Dept did do an investigation, and in the first one found that a Dr did make a mistake, however it was sent for a 2nd opinion and that Dr cleared the first of ALL wrong doings. I need my moms body exhumed to do this toxicology thing and I can find No-one to help. I am hoping some one will take me seriously enough to read this an help me PLEASE, in any way you can. It is a crime as for the autopsy said that the cause of all of this nerve problem was a very small, small cell lung tumor, that had not spread pass the lung. So at the very worst, and they had to remove the whole lung, I would still have my MOM, and my mom would still be a Grammy. It (IS A CRIME) last I knew to kill someone, in a hidious manner such as what she went through. Drs suspected the lung tumor, but never went after it in an agressive way. they only took an X-Ray that was unable to be read, and I was told that they would take a blood test that would tell them if she had cancer in 10 days. However in 10 days she was dead and buried. The test did come back as her having cancer. CRIME, this is and there is a 2 year statue of limitation on death, and over a year has run out, and with my agressiveness still getting nowhere. Help Please.

How it changed my life:

It has changed my veiws to bad as far as Drs.Lawyers, and the judgitial system goes.I wont let a Dr. get near me now, even if I am real sick. I am now seeing a Pchyciatrist about my mom,and need depression medician to go on.There is not one day that goes by that I dont think of my mom, and how life would be if they just had done the right thing, and how my life would be if I could just get the REAL truth and finally let my life go on as they all say. This is not just my mom we need to think about here, Its all of our loved ones that are out there being treated this way, you just dont know it yet. Thats why they call it a practice.I cant go on, and wont, until this is all resolved in the manner it needs to be resolved in......in the courts if I can ever get it there.

A good place to tell your story to would be T.L.C. and the discovery channel. By contacting them you can get ahold of the people who produce the shows ,I see shows on there all the time >Remeber not all cops are bad>allthough the majority of them suck. >the FBI would allso be a good place . get all the imformation you can on your mothers death and send it to them .Tell them what you think and just no matter what dont give up. I have no doubt to the story you tell and the truth fulness it tell's >i have had my own experiences with doctors and police working together to cover up one anothers mess up's. also maybe you should try 48 hours , or date line, 60 minute,s and shows like that cause when know one else listens they do . And they like nothing more than ot uncover some one elses dirtytracks .I wish you luck and if i find any names i will contact you again . remember be percistant.BH

Date: 9/22/1999 11:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 411    I agree, Dateline would be a good news show to contact. If you can find a lawyer that specializes in wrongful death that would be a great help. I can't believe the hospital didn't monitor her!!! Not only is that negligent, but it's just plain stupidity on the doctor's part. It could have something to do with your mother's medical insurance company as well. Unfortunatly, doctors will do what is best for the insurance company rather than do what is best for the patient. Keep digging for info, don't give up, and good luck to you! My heart goes out to you and your family.
Date: 9/26/1999 12:28:00 PM    I'am soo sorry to hear about your Mom.I feel so bad,I send the best of wishes to you and your family, and may god be with you always and for ever.
Date: 10/4/1999 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 817    This is a terrible tragedy. But is also a great learning story. The hospitals do alot of cover ups to save their asses. I don't think people realize how much covering they really do. My best friend works in a hospital and alot of stories i here of how many dead babies get mixed up in the sheets and thrown down the laundery shoot a year. It is disgusting and sad how many people just don't do their jobs right. Please don't give up someone has to listen eventually. I hope you find peace and a resolution. My thoughts are with you and your family. Nikki
Date: 10/8/1999 7:55:00 AM    I feel that you should persue this. my mom had breast cancer and I still say she died because of the radiation treatments she had. The radiation got to her liver and then everthing started to shut down. I still wish that I would have pursued this issue and my dad didn't want to. To top it off I just lost my dad sept. 8 of this year. I miss them both very much. Keep pursuing this maybe get your state representative involved to see what he can do. Michele
Date: 10/9/1999 3:01:00 PM    I am so sorry for your loss. However, while reading your story, I felt you were talking about myasthenic syndrome even before you stated the doctors thought it was due to a tumor in her lung. This is indeed a very rare (Thank God) and tragic cancer related problem. The treatment sounds appropriate enough. One thing we must keep in mind is this: No treatment is 100% successful, and unfortunatly there are always possible complications. If this were not true, people would never die. Again, I am so sorry for your loss, and I pray you find peace. LMF
Date: 10/14/1999 9:22:00 PM    I did not think there was a statue of limitations on murder. I wish you well, there are to many cover ups. Keep seaching, you will find someone to help you.
Date: 10/19/1999 7:51:00 PM    Kathy, first let me say that my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Now, in my observation having worked in both the medical and law enforcement fields...I believe your use of the word "Crime" to describe your mother's case is what is turning people off. I'm sorry and do not mean to belittle the enormity of the situation. However, you should keep searching for an attorney who specializes in Medical Malpractice Cases. Here is a tip...you need to call it "Medical Malpractice or Wrongful Death". Don't call, go visit the lawyers in their office. Let them see you...consultations are usually free and it is harder to turn someone down face to face. Don't just look for someone who will take your case, but someone who will do the case justice...I learned that the hard way.
Date: 10/21/1999 7:56:00 AM    What about Medical Mal-Practice?
Date: 11/9/1999 1:36:00 PM    Have you requested her medical records? If so, did they show any thing out of the ordenary? It would be awful hard to cover up problems that weren't addressed by documentation. also wouldn't your acusations be hard to prove since she received new blood before she died? Just currious. I wish you luck & hope that you continue your fight for your justice. perhaps at the very least it will make those caregivers think twice before neglecting anoter patients needs. Incidently patients on Heparin are to be monitored very carefully. Keep in mind the persons name that told you different, it may help later. MIMI

Date: 1/18/2002 4:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 25828    i've been there..wronged and no one to help - no one wants to make a big deal against a big company..i know people that have had success finding attorney's by goign to bigger cities..farther away (certainly out of town and state) but, you need to call some more high profile people.
Date: 7/9/2002 5:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 35160    omg, im so sorry. this is so sad. 8^( huggs shay
