Well I play the Lottos, lottery tickets and have the ocassional wager on a horse race...and yes, I've played the slot machines at the casino. But I also know my limits and never go over them, and also I play them for fun, once you get serious it changes drastically....the guy you are talking about sounds like a professional gambler and though they might make a lot of money, somehow they never discuss their huge losses, so don't be taken in by what he is saying hun....people lose their homes, and all possessions through gambling that got out of control. If you don't gamble, don't start now! |

Well he would be in the minority, I'm sure. Gambling is a risk, and not one that is sure fixed. A lot of people will jump around for joy when they win on the horses etc, and if they are only occasional betters, well then they've won. But you don't really 'win' when you've put more into it over the years. I do Powerball over here with my dad and sisters. What a waste of good money, we've never really won. We've had prizes, but that doesn't add up to what we've put in over the years. Why don't I pull out? cos sure as eggs the week I do, they will win. LOL It's the only gambling I do on a regular basis. Melbourne cup time I have a bet on the big race, I buy the occasional scratchie. My family all have some addictions to gambling, and I just don't want to be part of it. I work hard for my money! |

I called a friend of mine about playing in the stock market one time which is also gambling. He said you don't need to be in the stock market , these people that brag on their winnings don't ever mention how much they lose. I do play the lottery every once in a while if I'm at a store in the states that sell lottery tickets.. |

Look at the people who own the casinos, gambling offices etc...do they look poor? THAT should give you an idea of how 'rich' the players are likely to become. Someone has to make money from the industry and you can rest assured that it isn't those playing the games. Keep your hard earned money in your pocket. |

are you sure that's where he's getting the money? That it's not his family that's rich, that he's living off credit cards and spending his whole paycheck on expensive stuff to look good? That he's not doing something else on the side? A lot of people are full of wind. It's possible he made this much, but someday his luck will run out and he'll be flat broke spending every nickel he gets his hands on to win it back. Go for fun with a set amount to spend, don't spend a dollar more. but don't expect to get rich. |

We play lottery tickets, but never buy more than a certain amount. So it is always kept in check. Also been to the casino a time or two, but have gone in knowing we aren't spending over a set limit. If you do it once in a while in moderation, there is no problem. :) |

When MegaMillions goes over $100 million I'll play it once in awhile. I'm not really a lucky person, but in the back of my mind I keep hearing the words....there's always that first time. I've worked with a couple people over the years that are just plain lucky! One woman in particular consistently won the football pool in our office so many times that the rest of us wouldn't join in the pool if she was playing! Maybe this guy is one of those people. Shake his hand and see if some of his good luck rubs off! |

Don't gamble! I worked as a cashier in a slot machine room and saw so many people blow their life savings on machines that were never going to pay back all that they put in. My husband had trouble for awhile with gambling, it's the closest we ever came to divorce. Gambling and lottery tickets are the poor and the old persons tax....it's just not worth it. |

I'll play cards all night over $10.00 worth of dimes nickels and quarters. But gambling real money in a casino? That's a sucker move. Better off just writing them a check and mailing it to them. Lottery, scratch offs? Well in my state it goes toward the schools and scholarships so please, continue to contribute to my kids education. |

I will sometimes buy scratch tickets and sometimes go to Bingo with my mother-in-law, but aside from that I can't stand gambling. I've been to the casino twice and it's about as much fun as just lighting all your spending money on fire. |

I'm not a gambler at all, I used to buy scratch offs but I never really won anything "big", like $50 at maximum..so to me, I'd rather not waste the money on something pointless..my fiance however goes to a nearby casino once every so often with his mom to play BINGO or maybe some poker..but he knows his limit and won't spend over a certain amount..he's had a few good jackpots, but he's lost a good chunk as well. |

Well, football betting here in the U.S. is very big, just not "soccer" football. My husband is someone who can take in all the information (like a horse racing form) and calculate the odds and sense the personality of the horse or team or whatever and make a bet. He has hit big several times in his life, but has also lost; however, the aggregate total of wins outpace the losses. Why? Because he will really only bet smaller amounts which result in a huge payoff, such as teaser or parlay bets. He also used to play hold 'em, but that stopped once we got married. I, like Kelly, used to work in gambling. I could see people coming in on a Friday night, cashing their paychecks sitting at my 21 table and proceeding to lose $100 hands in quick succession, and then what? Not have a dime to walk away with after all their hours of hard, respectable work. If you're scared or anxious or uneasy about gambling, then my advice is DON'T. God Bless. |

Well, I live 15 minutes from a casino and I'm pretty good about controling myself but I did go last weekend when I shouldn't have. I go only two or three times a year though so that's not too bad and I definitly know when to stop. |

I'm not into gambling at all. I hate it. Seems like WAYYYY To big of a risk. I'm not religious or anything, I'm just not a gambler. Even when people GIVE me money TO gamble, I'd honestly, just would rather keep the money. No joke. But your friend here, seems like he has a strategy. I dont know. I guess in your situation i'd do it once or twice and GET OUT! lol |

Linkin, I think your acquaintance has lied to you at least once. Some of what he has told you might be true, but at least one of the statements he's told you is a lie, IMO. His tale might be more believable if he was much older than 22—if he is 22—since he would know the activities with the best chances of winning. Gambling mechanisms are designed to favor the house; people may win occasionally, but they will not win consistently. “If something sounds too good to be true…” I wish you well. |

I go to the private clubs where they allow gambling. And like another person commented ... gambling is designed to favor the house, not you. I gamble, alot. Sometimes I win, sometimes I win alot ... but there is ALWAYS days where you lose, and days where you lose alot. And I know this from experience. You can't make a living out of it. |
