Constructive criticism, and due discipline are both very useful things to be able to accept. Not only do they help us learn right from wrong as well as lessons, but they keep us humbles. Elsewhere in the bibles it speaks of keeping a humble spirit, and speaks against pride. Those who are too prideful rebel against authority, discipline and constructive criticism. I'm paraphrasing here, but a verse goes "After pride comes a fall". When we're too prideful to accept discipline, reproof, and criticism, we will become stuck in whatever erroneous ways we may be living in.
