My Credit Card Company Messed Up....... *PJ*

I'm preetttyy sure my credit card company messed up. Who knows alot about credit card companys??

I go through Chase....I rarley use credit cards but at the end of Oct (oct 21st to be exact) I charged roughly $250 on it for car maintence at the dealership....When I went online few days later to pay my credit card I noticed that SOMEHOW on Sept 26th a payment was made for $186.72

WHO made this payment?? I'd assume error on someone's part. Since I had a zero balance on my chase card, that $186 went as a credit on my card.

Needless to say, I payed the $80 to "pay it off"..

I keep checking periodically to see when that $186.72 is going to be charged back onto my card because I know it wasnt me that put it on there to begin with..

You guys' input???

Date: 11/18/2008 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    I would call and ask them since, it's 186.00
I do know that sometimes if, you use your credit card at a gas station they will put a hold on up to 100.00 though.

Date: 11/18/2008 7:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12103    It was a $186 credit on my account...so someone put Money ON there...and..I was THINKING about calling them..but it would sure be nice to get a break..lol
Date: 11/18/2008 7:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 64197    You won't get that "break", they will discover the error eventually...call them and get it straightened out
Date: 11/18/2008 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    An error has obviously been made hun so you have to do the right thing and look into it because it will be picked up sooner or later...It's not a break when it should have gone into someone else's account!!
Date: 11/18/2008 8:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    Better call them; otherwise it could come back to haunt you later somehow!
Date: 11/18/2008 9:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 44994    i agree that the right thing to do would be to say something, and since i work for a credit card company i can pretty well guess that even if you do mention it, they'll correct the error but still not ask you to pay that amount, due to the inconvenience. most of the time if you seem distressed about something but genuinely nice the company will absorb the costs considering it was partly their mistake.
Date: 11/18/2008 9:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 7830    yes, defenitly call them.

PJ.. not telling them about the mistake is like taking the money without them knowing.

Call and let them know about the mistake, they will probably find the right person that made the payment and credit them. You'll feel good knowing who you are and how honest you are.

So, I always think of things like this. 1. I will remember this event for a long time. 2. I get to choose if I feel good or bad about it. 3. I always choose to feel good about it and do what is right. It has never failed to make me feel good and it lasts for the rest of your life.

Date: 11/18/2008 10:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 23963    George has great advice...you really need to call them and let them know so it can be fixed. Hope all goes well. *Hugs*
Date: 11/19/2008 5:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Call them and tell them what has happened and let them fix the error. On the good side card companies will note that in your file (customer reported payment error, etc.) That could work in your favor some day if you want a late fee waived or something.
Date: 11/19/2008 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 48809    Be sure to do the right thing and notify your credit card company of the error...you will be glad you did. To keep money that is not rightfully yours is theft.
Date: 11/19/2008 7:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 15677    agrees with everyone else
Date: 11/19/2008 10:21:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12103    crap. okay guys. I'll call them. lol
Date: 11/19/2008 10:33:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12103    I did the right thing and called them. They cant find where the payment came from, because it was from a bank. She thinks perhaps I accidently payed THAT credit card rather than another one of mine and suggested I contact all my credit card companys to make sure I dont owe them $$...ahhhhh Atleast I did the right thing
Date: 11/19/2008 2:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    I would call and ask about it; it may be that somehow you'll never have to pay that 186; but it may be the case that they accidentally credited someone elses payment to your card adn they may be really hurting without it. I don't know if that kind of thing happens, but it couldn't hurt to check.
