My Boss Don't Seem To Care Anymore`Psyguy

My work seems to have no communication and no leadership.....

Here's some Instances of this:

Monday November 17: The lead in my room was off, she was getting medical tests done...Her shifts starts at 7:30 Am.... I don't began to 8:30, but I get there early about 7:40.... My mom's room is allowed 12 kids for 2 teachers.....thats kids in their room, transition, and my room. When I got there, there was 16 kids, 7 which were mine, and no teacher to cover for my room. They said go find **Kelly** who's the assistant director, but I couldn't find her anywhere, but when I returned down to my mom's room, she was talking to them.

She told me "Im pulling christi from her room, and she's taking your kids, til dana, the transition room teacher comes in at 8:00, you can clock in at your regular time".... (Yet they knew the lead was taking off for 2 weeks, yet they couldn't or forgot that noone was there at 7:30).....

Today Dana's assistant was off again...She's transition room which has 6 kids....they are kids 18 months to about 24 months, and they can combine with us, since they are the same age, but we can only have 14 when combined. Dana leaves at 1:30 cause she's going to classes.....So noone was there to cover her room....And together we had 15 kids, which put us at 1 over.... Dana texted our director to see if we should combine or not, but she didn't text her back.

Jin the lead in my room went to her office to find out what we should do... She came back and said "Steph(director) gave me attitude, said it wasn't her problem". "So I said if you give me attitude, forget it, and it'll be your problem".

Monday November 17: We got a new kid, but he was there when I got there at 7:35, so I didn't get to meet mom or dad, so I didnt know who they were, and it's my duty to know when he gets picked up I don't give him to some schedule.... So at 3:30 PM Iask Steph to look up in the new kids file the name of his parents so I can "ID" Them when they pick their kid up... She said "sure, I'll do that"..... Twenty minutes pass it's 3:50, I go to the bathroom near the infant room, and she's in there playing with her niece.... I'm thinking "I asked you to do something very important, and your in here playing with your niece".... She never did come back and tell me the parents names..... I was really upset at that, cause I don't want to give some kid to a stranger, and it will come back on me, so I tried cover my butt, but she didn't follow up with me....

Then it's ticking us off that we got kids at the daycare for 11 hours a day.... Last Thursday we had almost 15 kids at 5:30, ten just in our room, 5 in the other, we couldnt combine...

Then it's ticking us off cause Jin can only have 7 by herself from 7:30-8:30, til I clock in, then we can have 14... But for the past week we've had 9 or 10 before 8:30..... Luckily Dana offered to come in at 7:30 to help Jin out....

But then I still got the same 8-10 kids til 5:30 or later, and it's causing us to have problems of me clocking out on time....

But it falls on death ears to our boss...To her "it's not her problem".....

Is there a higher-up you can go to? It IS your boss's problem and she's not taking care of it. She should hear about her irresponsibility.. if there's a higher-up you can speak to, I would.

Every teacher even her "favorites" have noticed how she's going back on her words, and saying one thing, and doing another thing. We use to put up with it, but not anymore. Her younger sister works there, and she and her don't get along well. It use to be that things ran smoothly, but not it's all seeming to fall apart.

We got over 170 kids enrolled, and I don't want to disrupt any of their lifes, especially in this dismal economy...Plus it's more of a local daycare, and there's not any like ours around. Were the only one who accepts infants at 6 weeks old. And the school age kids schools are in walking distance...

Yet she cares more the upper rooms then ours. It's a miracle if we see her or the assistant. Noone cares how many we have, no matter how many were over, or there's noone to cover...She won't work in any of the toddler rooms...She had the gull this afternoon to work in the Infant room 1, and sent the other teacher to cover for Dana's class...Theres no reason she couldnt work that room herself..The other teacher doesnt know them kids or their routines....
  
Date: 11/20/2008 12:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 23963    Sounds like your boss has no idea what they are doing and should not be in that position if she does not care what goes on in the workplace. I would go over her head and speak to the Human Resources Department. Is there someone higher up you can speak to about this?   
Date: 11/20/2008 6:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 28190    If I were you, I wouldn't worry about being a whistleblower, but MORE for the welfare of the children. There are reasons that a childgiver cannot have more than a set amount of children in his or her care. It's for safety. You and other teachers, that are having to endure the one or two children over that set amount, can become a major issue, not to mention a danger.

It is not only your job you need to worry about in this situation, but those kids. Their welfare is first and foremost, and should be all the reason in the world for you and the other teacher/s having to deal with this, to contact someone higher up. It's great that your daycare service is unique, and closeknit to the community, but that should not keep you/other teachers from taking a stand to make sure it /continues/ to be a safe, wonderful place for those kids.

My best advice, is go to whomever is above your boss. If you have to, you can do it anonymously, but either way, they need to be aware of this. It is very important that the person in charge of a daycare, is responsible enough TO be in charge. Good luck, and I hope things get better.

But that the situation could become a danger or an issue to the children, especially if there was a fire or extremely bad weather, things like that.
