Grandma, I'm Scared!!!

Grandmother would sit in a wooden rocking chair and read to us a bed time story. She would do this every night so that we wouldn't be scared. As time went on, she had grown very old, but she still would come at the time to read those most important stories that we loved to hear. When she died, we were really sad and wondered who would read us the bed time stories that ever so soothed us and made us drift fast asleep. About two weeks had passed. We were lying in bed and I was half asleep when I noticed Grandma sitting in that wooden rocking chair. I didn't think anything of it that night because that was what I was used to seeing. The next morning, I thought to myself, I had to be dreaming. My sister came to me the same day and told me about her dream of Grandma sitting in the rocking chair and she was holding the book she used to read to us. I was completely amazed and I told her that I had that same dream. The next night, we both were tucked in tightly and we waited, and waited, and finally fell asleep. I don't know what woke me or my sister at that moment, but just like clockwork, Grandmother was in her wooden rocking chair with her book. We both were so scared!! We just froze in our beds, like we were glued to the sheets. We told her that she was scaring us because we knew that she had died. She got up gracefully, and disappeared. She never came back which we were kind of relieved. But I do think of this often and wonder, did she know she was dead? Or was she just following her nightly routine?

How it changed my life:

I grew up keeping an open mind on things we can't explain. CG

Date: 10/5/1999 4:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 582    I loved your story CG. My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago and the only trace of him I've seen since then is the smell of his house as I was passing a painted portrait of him I have in my stairway. Good story. Chelle

Date: 10/5/1999 7:30:00 AM    I really liked this story. Maybe she was just trying to keep you two from getting scared the same way that she always had, and simply didn't think that she herself would frighten you. Or, possibly she was just watching over you, kinda like a guardian angel? I don't know. Really good story. Ki
