They actually happened to my father, who was one of the quietest, most ordinary guys that anyone could ever meet. You know the kind of man I mean, the one that the phrase,"Salt of the earth," was invented for. Real kind-hearted, easy-going. It wasn't until I was a grown woman, that my Dad mentioned these things to me, just kind of in passing--like he was just a little puzzled over them, you know, but not bothered enough to have thought about them in a couple of decades. It was just a little something that he happened to remember when I brought up the subject of some other para-normal things that I had recently experienced. It seems that one day (years before I was born), my Dad was driving along in his car, just like he had done a hundred times before. Suddenly, for no apparent reason that my Dad could recall, he found himself looking at himself driving the car. He said that this struck him as kind of odd, but that was about all. This situation continued for a few minutes, then just as suddenly, he was again sitting behind the driver's wheel, exactly as he had been before. The other incident was equally mundane (if any out-of-body experience can be described by that word), in that he was walking his basset hound down the street on a leash, when again he found himself watching himself walking the dog. He sort of floated along beside himself for a moment or two, then he was once again in his body. Now, mind you, my Dad was not a guy who read books on metaphysical occurrences, in fact his only knowledge of these types of things came from what he saw on the silver screen when he went to see what he called "a scary movie." And we all know how inaccurate that source of information is... And yet, my Dad still wasn't bothered by these incidents, or even particularly curious--for him, it was "just one of those things..." If that had been me, I would have been freaked out. P.S.--I have a couple of other interesting accounts of poltergeist (at least I think that's what it was) activity that I personally experienced, but I'll have to post them some other time, because my Mom is insistently pointing out that I need my sleep (otherwise known as nagging, but she means well), and she's not going to give up until I do...So, good night! How it changed my life: Even though this did not happen to me, it did indeed change my outlook on paranormal things. After all, if out-of-body experiences could spontaneously happen to my down-to-earth Dad, then it made me feel like unexplained things weren't just the stuff of fiction. It helped me accept the true nature of certain other things that had happened in my life around the same time that my Dad told me these accounts.
