When most people think of area 51, the now infamous top secret base in Nevada, they think of alien space craft and alien bodys floating in vats of strange fluids. Well, I hate to say it but none of that is there. The base exsists, the military has admitted that. The question is: what is it that the base does? Well, the Groom Lake installation (as it is often referred as) is where the government tests it's top secret airplanes. Some of the more famous planes tested their is the SR-71 Blackbird. The blackbird was top top secret until just after Operation: Desert Storm. That is when I believe it was declassifed. It is rumored that the next generation in warplanes is being designed and tested at Area 51. This new breed of airplane, nicknamed "Aurora", is supposed to be Hypersonic. Meaning that it could fly above mach 5. The name "Area 51" came from the old atomic testing maps. When the United States was testing it's nuclear bombs after World War II it chose the only place with a sparse enough population and lots of flat, empty desert. Nevada was ideal. Each test site was given a designation in order of the tests taken their. Area 51 was chosen to house the governments top secret testing facility. It has the worlds longest runway: 7 miles. If two space shuttles were to land on opposite sides of the runway, they could roll to a stop without breaks and still have at least a mile between them. As for UFO's, there are some explainations for SOME of the sightings. A lot of pictures show dark figures in the shape of a saucer, with the classic hump in the middle. Most of these were taken before the SR-71 was declassified. If you look at an SR-71 from the front or back with it's landing gear up it takes on the same shape as depicted in the photos. This does not mean that all pictures of UFO's are merely cases of mistaken identity, however. But it does explain a large number of them. The content of Part three is not decided as of yet.
