crybaby bridge, listen closely and you can here the baby crying..... a chilling ledgend, or is it?

Place, Franklin County, GA. Time, around 11:00p.m. Halloween night. My cousin and I, just a couple of average High School Teenagers, always willing to try different things, especially whne it comes to ledgends. There was this dirt road we used to ride up and down, drinking beer, doing whatever. There's not really too much that you can do when you live in North East GA. We have been up and down this long dirt road, that branched off to several other different dirt roads, that went on for miles and miles in the woods of north Georgia. Way way out in the middle of the woods, there was this bridge that had been rebuilt but the a bridge had been there for as long as anyone in the county can remember. There was this old town ledgend that a long time ago, a very long time ago, this women and her baby were traveling down the dirt road one night when something happened and there carriage overturned into the river below where they both drowned. Ledgend has it that something or someone had spooked her horse which in turn caused the carriage to overturn. Ledgend also has it that if you park you car on the bridge, put your keys on the hood, and say aloud "I killed your baby," your doors will lock, your car will crank, and you will here the baby crying.

"yeah right" my cousin Jason said as we were driving through twn, drinking on some beers that halloween night. "that can't possibly be true" he said again. Being the opened minded person that I am I told him "there's only one way to find out!" We both grinned as he turned the car around and off to the long dirt road we started. about 30 mins later we reached the bridge. It couldn't have been a more perfect night to play the old ledgend games that are quite common among teenagers. It was halloween, and there was this layer of fog cutting through the floor of the woods, which didn't allow us to see the river bottom, not even with a flashlight. We were both trying to be the tough guys, with our I ain't scared attitudes. Sitting there drinking beer, talking, but in all actuality we were just prolonging what we had came to do. Finally the he flopped the keys down on the hood, and said to me "lets do it!" We both sat there for a few mins, wondering who was going to go first when suddenly he shouted out, "I killed your baby!"

Nothing, just silence. Then we reliazed a little too silent. All the crickets and bugs, and frogs and all the night time creatures were not making a sound. I was just starting to get chills when Jason said to me "listen!" Off in the distance I heard a faint cry which sounded like an animal at first but then I quickly realized that it wasn't what wanted it to be. When we finally came to our senses, and unthawed from being frozen with fear, and realized that this little fun we were having just took a 90 degree turn and went completly wrong, we jumped in the car. We could still hear the crying slowly getting closer and closer. Screaming "start the car, start the car," I just knew that it wasn't gonna crank, but it did. Jason threw the car into gear, and stomped on the gas but thats when the real scare came into play. The car was barely moving on the bridge. The tires weren't spinning or anything, and the RPM's were maxed out on the gage, but the car was just slowly rolling. Through both of us screaming whats going on, and the engine, we could still hear the crying which seemed to be coming from behind us. Finally when the front tires rolled off the front of the bridge, the car took off like a bat out of, well you know what. I was looking straight ahead, refusing to look back, but Jason turned to take one final look. That's when he told me he could make out a horse on the bridge in the dense fog. We went staright to my house, because I lived the closest and went inside. We never told anyone about this, because we never thought that anyone would believe us.

How it changed my life:

Well, I now have a more open mind when it comes to the supernatural. To this day we have never been back on that bridge.

Date: 11/1/1999 2:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 1461    Holy SH#T. When I lived in maryland, there was this bridge on this old dirt road, way back in the middle of nowhere, and it too was called CRYBABY BRIDGE!!!!The story was that a group af satanist hung a baby from the bridge, and at midnight you could hear the baby cry. This bridge was located near an old abandoned insane asylum
(the same one mentioned in my first story) and at night we used to wait around till midnight just to hear the baby cry!!!the story also went that if you got out of your car when the baby was crying, the GOATMAN would sneak up behind you and kill you. Thats so incredibly wierd, when I first read the title I thought you were someone I knew back in maryland, anyways GREAT STORY!!!

drive at night to this place we called "the water
hole" (a big pond i guess)
We had a tire swing hooked up over it and
everything. Anyways, about 20 minutes away, we too
had a bridge called crybaby bridge.

But I thought it was odd you had one in your place
too.

THE CAR WENT INTO THE WATER, AND THE BABY DIED. NOW TALE IS THAT IF YOU GO TO THE BRIDGE LATE AT NITE, PARK YOUR CAR ON THE BRIDGE AND CUT THE ENGINE AND THE LIGHTS, THE CAR WILL NOT START BACK WHEN YOU TRY TO CRANK IT. SCARY THING IS THAT YOU CAN SEE THE HEADLIGHTS OF THE CAR UNDER THE WATER AND YOU CAN HEAR THE BABY CRY. WE WENT TO SEE IF IT WAS TRUE THIS PAST SATURDAY. THERE WAS NO FOG OUT UNTIL WE GOT TO THE BRIDGE. IT WAS SO FOGGY THAT WE DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL ANOTHER TIME. JUST AS WE STARTED TO CROSS OVER THE BRIDGE, MY CAR TRIED TO STALL. WE GOT OUT OF THERE. QUICK!!!!!!!!!

Date: 7/10/2000 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 11861    I have heard this story before...very scary!
Date: 7/16/2000 12:23:00 AM    The story built up in usual fan-fare, the usual innocence of young boys, testing thier tuff guy image to their friends, but would not do it on thier own, it was a believable story, maybe left out what his friend saw when he looked back..and left us all wondering what really was there..since a baby cry was the tittle. There is spook hill in Fla, try that one..I did..UltraSweetie@aol.com
Date: 7/19/2000 8:57:00 AM    SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING MY BROTHER TOLD ABOUT WHEN HE AND HIS FAMILY WERE COMING HOME FROM A WEEK IN ASHVILLE NC.THEY HAD DECIDED TO TAKE SOME BACK ROADS ON THE WAY TO SEE SOME FRIENDS IN ATHENS GA.THEY WOUND UP IN A TOWN CALLED AVALON GA.HE SAID ABOUT AN HOUR INTO THE DRIVE THERE WAS AN OLD TWO LANE BRIDGE THHEY CROSSED HE SAID ABOUT MIDWAY ACROSS YOU COULD HEAR A BABY CRYING.MY SISTER-IN-LAW MADE HIM TURN AROUND AND GO BACK BUT THEY DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING UNTIL THEY TURNED AROUND AND HEADED SOUTH AGAIN.ALSO GO TO LAKE WALES FLA.AND EXPLAIN SPOOK HILL IT'S GREAT.IRISH
Date: 7/23/2000 7:07:00 PM    I think every small town in the country has a crybaby bridge

Date: 8/3/2000 3:01:00 PM    The story was great, but the legend was wrong. Go to freakylinks.com and see the real story.
Date: 8/5/2000 5:14:00 PM    I heard this same story about a bridge in McAlester, Okla. when I was living there. The only difference was that because of the red dirt in OK, the river water seemed to be bloody. Fun story anyway.
Date: 8/9/2000 2:08:00 PM    This story was kind of lame
Date: 8/13/2000 8:32:00 PM    Great story!Seems like a bunch of cry baby bridges out there in the world. I believe in ghost because I've had encounters with them before too! I've heard other stories like this before if it's true,WOW!!! SPOOKIE!!!! If not then why does it always have to involve innocent children and babies???I'm not saying I don't believe but remember I wasn't there (to know)!
Date: 8/14/2000 11:21:00 AM    that was a great story i found it quite scary. has anyone else u know ever tried it? does it only work on halloween?~SP~
Date: 8/15/2000 9:56:00 PM    i ahd the same experience in mobile alabama. me ana couple of my friends went to cry baby bridge.we left a reeses peanut butter cup and a barqs rootbeer on the dash. our doors locked and windows rolled up. we left and went down the road to wait for the ghost to drink half of the root beer and eat one of the reeses, sure enough an hour and a half later we returned to find the reeses eaten and the rootbeer eaten!! J.C in mobile alabama!!!!!!
Date: 8/16/2000 7:17:00 PM    That was pretty good but you should have put more details in there I think.
Date: 8/16/2000 11:12:00 PM    Great story! But you will never be satisfied untill you go back on the bridge and find out what happens when the carriage comes back. Who knows maybe you could of saved the baby and its mother from drowning.

Date: 8/31/2000 7:16:00 PM    good thing I'm wearing boots and short pants!
Date: 9/2/2000 2:06:00 PM    ARE THESE STORIES MADE UP JUST ENTERTAINMENT OR ARE THEY SUPPOSE TO BE REAL?
Date: 9/3/2000 2:28:00 PM    Hi! Well put story. Only one flaw, the beer. I've already written this to another story so I'm going to make this short and simple. A lot of these stories have a flaw. Right before the people hear or see something, they always have some beer. I believe in ghosts, but I think some of it could have been you imagination running away with you because you believed in the legend and I bet you really wanted it to happen. But it's still a good story.
Date: 9/5/2000 9:15:00 AM    It scared me!
Date: 9/6/2000 10:36:00 PM    Hello this is Ta'neka Hamilton I read your story and I think you to did the right thing about keeping that experience to yourselF. I would also like to comment the two of you on being brave enough to try it. Well that's all bye bye now.

Date: 9/20/2000 5:39:00 PM    I was scared when you got to the part about the car not moving

Date: 9/21/2000 4:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 12266    Wow, I read alot of the comments and there are many that claim they also have a crybaby bridge in their home towns. Interesting, great story. cranberys
Date: 9/22/2000 2:04:00 AM    I mean no disrespect by my coming statements. I am a guy who likes scary stories, scary movies, and anything that comes remotely scary! This story was ok for the most part, but it just wasn't enough to get me going. This story has great potential. Keep up the good work.
Date: 9/23/2000 6:24:00 PM    How much did you 2 drink that night? Not bashing you or anything, just wondering.
Date: 9/24/2000 5:37:00 PM    its a tired old story, every town has a bridge with this kind of story
Date: 9/24/2000 5:43:00 PM    i thought that this story was really good and in a way i find it kinda hard to believe but it was really good and since i read this i believe more into these kind of things.thanks.
Date: 9/25/2000 1:35:00 PM    Does every region have a cry baby bridge? Ours was in the small community of Wilson, Okla. But you didn't have to do anything to hear the baby crying, just be there late at night, preferably alone.
Date: 9/25/2000 5:09:00 PM    the sight whould be beyond awesome if there was more proof and reality.
Date: 9/26/2000 2:00:00 PM    This sound's like a great story. I would like to try this for myself to see if I would be scared out of my mind or if I can .
Date: 9/26/2000 2:14:00 PM    I believe you the other day my aunt told me about Crybay Bridge & I wanted to find out some things about this & I found you can do it two ways the 2nd One is put you keyes on your car & walk around the car & say "Cry baby" & your keyes will disapear & if someone is in the car that person will get strangled.
Date: 9/26/2000 10:31:00 PM    cry baby bridge is in OHIO. I live there. small town called new carlisle. It was a single lane bridge, and a lady was walking after her car broke down and was nearly hit by a car, she tossed the baby appx.18 mo old onto what was to be the grass and in fact was water, she then jumped and the baby died. On any rainy night you can hear the baby. Have not been back since 17 years old now 48 !!!!!
Date: 9/28/2000 1:53:00 PM    Are you serious? Whoa!

Date: 10/1/2000 3:47:00 PM    I think this is kinda weird..Just last night me and a few friends went to a Haunted Trail in Middletown, then went to a bridge called-Cry Baby Bridge..This is weird that all these places have a bridge like that..How weird is that?
It was probably like 10 or 11, but we were still scared to death..
Date: 10/1/2000 3:53:00 PM    Oh yeah it's me again- (the gurl who went to the Haunted Trail in Middletown and stuff)

Date: 10/26/2000 5:36:00 PM    Good stories. We have a CryBaby Bridge here in Walker County, Alabama. It is on the Smith Lake Dam Rd. Legend has it that a woman and her child was traveling in a horse and buggy across the bridge and something spooked the horse and caused the buggy to flip over the bride. Legend has it that you can hear the baby cry at midnight on Halloween and you can put candy on the hood of your car and sit there and watch the candy disappear and hear the woman eating the candy, although, I have never seem to get the courage up to try it, but I know late on night me and my cousin was going home from fishing at the dam, and we crossed the bridge late one night and we slowed down while crossing the bridge and listen, and you could hear a sound like a baby was crying it nearly scared us to death and we raced out of there. But I think it is neat how so many states has a CryBaby Bridge in it.
Date: 10/26/2000 6:48:00 PM    this is really good is there any other crybaby bridges?
Date: 10/27/2000 4:58:00 PM    This was not really a great story...In the 1st place:you were drunk wich means you probably were imagining it. 2nd:There is absolutley no way this story could be possible. 3rd: there is a crybaby bridge in every town/state and every story is a little like the next. This was a nice fiction story though...work on your spellin too!~Meghan(megjunebug@aol.com)~

Date: 11/9/2000 3:42:00 PM    There is also a crybaby bridge in Illinois, except it has a different story. The legend goes that there was a school bus that crashed on this bridge and all the kids died. Now, when anyone goes to this bridge, they turn their car off, put it in neutral, put powder on their bumper, and the kids will push you up the bridge(it has an upward incline). When the ride is over, there are handprints on the bumper that you can see because of the powder!
Date: 11/11/2000 3:11:00 PM    I've heard a similar storie. The difference was
the location. Which was Lawton, OK.
